With its spot on the main corner of downtown Truckee, Bar of America’s location alone draws people through its doors. After 40 years in business, however, there is more to the place locals call “B of A” than where it stands (and, yes, B of A was once a Bank of America). Sure, the historic red brick building and large windows are authentically inviting, but the food, drink and music have kept locals coming back for decades. The huge bar is a perfect spot for happy-hour food and drink off the bar menu. The wood-fired pizzas are creative and filling. If you’re done with an early morning session on the slopes or trail, stop in for brunch served on weekends only from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. A full dinner menu is offered, as is banquet service for larger groups. Stop into B of A Thursday through Saturday evenings for live music. Al fresco dining at B of A is an excellent place to watch the goings on downtown, especially when trains rumble past.
