Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley) is known to be a breeding ground for famous pro skiers. A few that have come from this area include Olympians Julia Mancuso and Jonny Moseley as well as extreme athlete Shane McConkey. One of the reasons that these three, and many others, have excelled at downhill skiing is because of the KT-22 ski lift. Situated right at the base and climbing 1,800 vertical feet in six minutes, KT-22 is the training ground for pros because of its quick access to steeps, chutes and cliffs. Thus, it is only fitting that the ski area created a bar area that pays respect to this monumental lift. The bar is outdoors and is located literally feet from the base of the lift. From the fire pits and umbrella-covered tables, guests have prime viewing of skiers and snowboarders plummeting down one of the steeper areas of the mountain, The Fingers. KT Base Bar hosts outdoor concerts in the spring and summer, with the hillside creating a natural amphitheater. KT Base Bar is excellent for enjoying sunny California spring skiing days, but it does shut down operation for the majority of summer and fall, except for those special occasions and concerts.
