A unique aspect to Palisades Tahoe is that it is rich in ski history. Combining the vision of Olympic ski-hopeful Wayne Poulsen with the financial backing and business expertise of Harvard lawyer Alex Cushing, Palisades Tahoe (then known as Squaw Valley) spun its first chair lift in 1949, beginning its journey as one of the best ski areas in the nation. Although the visionaries parted ways, with Cushing remaining as the ski area chairman until his death in 2006 at 92, the Poulsen family still has a stronghold in the valley. Christy Lodge is a beautiful, historic lodge that pays homage to this founding family. Christy Lodge is the original home of the Poulsens and now a small inn offering a quaint, welcoming feel with six guest rooms. The accommodations are basic, but the rooms are clean and inviting. The location is outstanding since the Lodge is literally across the street from the ski area. Christy Lodge is also connected to one of the finest dining options in the Valley, Graham's.
