The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is a natural light display in the sky caused by the collision of charged particles from the sun with gases in Earth's atmosphere, which are then guided by the planet's magnetic field toward the poles. This interaction creates a colorful, shimmering show of light, with different colors resulting from the types of gases and altitudes at which the collisions occur. Neat!

Give Back Tahoe is one of the many ways (and arguably the easiest) to support our little mountain community. For Tahoe Truckee, the Give Back Tahoe Giving Season brings together neighbors, visitors, and friends. It reminds us that the spirit of the holiday season is about gratitude and giving. It's about community. We are so excited to share that the new dukMéʔem wáťa (pronounced “dook-MEH-em wah-tah”) interpretive panels have been installed at Sugar Pine Point State Park. These panels are a testament to the strong partnership and collaboration with our Washoe Tribal and California State Park partners, with funding provided by the Sierra State Parks Foundation. The installation of these panels marks another important step in the larger effort to restore the name dukMéʔem wáťa within Sugar Pine Point State Park.
