Red Hut Cafe is a local eatery that has made the big time. In 1959 an old building at Stateline called The Donut Shop was moved into South Lake Tahoe and the first Red Hut Waffle Shop was opened. The Gardner family bought the business in 1984, and in 1990 they opened Red Hut Nevada on lower Kingsbury, replicating the look and feel of the original restaurant. In 2009 a third was included in the remodel of the Ski Run Center. Since then subsequent Huts have opened in Reno and Carson City. The Tahoe Red Huts are open for breakfast and lunch, and they stay true to their roots with big hearty pancakes, waffles, omelettes and burgers. The first two are also still fairly small little cafes, so you may experience a bit of a wait to get in. The Ski Run location is a bit larger. It also has a dinner menu and a soda fountain and ice cream parlor. But no matter which location you choose, when you eat at a Red Hut, you are getting a taste of Tahoe history.
