Chimney Beach is one of the more spectacular beaches on Lake Tahoe. Located 2.6 miles south of Sand Harbor on Highway 28, it tends to be a little quieter than other beaches that are accessed via car as it is a bit of a hike to get to it. The mile-plus hike starts out to the right of the free parking area, with a steep downhill (which creates a short, steep uphill climb when returning to the car), but then mellows out. To access Chimney Beach, when the trail levels out and makes a Y, take a right (going left will take you to other secluded beaches, many of which are nude beaches). Continue walking for a few minutes, and you will come to a large sandy beach that is accentuated with a Chimney in the middle of the sand. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out area as there are only a few garbage cans. Dogs are welcome at Chimney Beach.
