Cave Rock is an esteemed part of Lake Tahoe. Considered sacred by the Washoe Indians, the 3 million-year-old rock formation is known as the Lady of the Lake due to the image of a woman's profile. Cave Rock is 3 miles south of Glenbrook on Highway 50, and the entrance to the park is just a few feet south of Cave Rock Tunnel. The small day-use area offers picnic tables, BBQ grills, public bathrooms, a boat launch and a small sandy beach that is great for swimming. If lofty views are more your style, then take the quick 15-minute hike up to the top of Cave Rock. This viewpoint provides excellent views of the surrounding mountains and the expanse of Lake Tahoe. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash. They are not allowed on the sandy part of the beach unless they are a service animal or getting in or out of a kayak.
