If your dog is your best friend, Kiva Beach is for you. Kiva Beach, a part of the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, is one of the few beaches where dogs are welcome, though they still must be on leashes, per El Dorado County leash law, and the Tallac Marsh is off limits to canines to protect the wildlife of the Taylor Creek wetlands. Kiva Beach is harder to find than some other beaches, and this is a plus, making it less crowded than many of the Tahoe beaches even though it is free. The beach has restrooms and picnic tables. Visitors enjoy the forest trail that leads to this Tahoe secret from nearby Taylor Creek Visitor Center and the Valhalla Estate. Campfires and charcoal are not allowed at Kiva Beach, but you may have a gas stove with a valid, California Campfire Permit obtainable online.
