You would be hard-pressed to find a more authentic local experience than dining at the Meyers Downtown Cafe. Located on U.S. Highway 50 near the intersection of California State Route 89, the cafe is open for breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Sunday. For some 25 years, owners Billy and Barbara have brought a dash of the famed Southern hospitality to the high Sierra with friendly service and a nice selection of hearty food, including popular dishes such as the Redneck Benedict and the Godfather Huevos. During the warmer seasons, the outdoor deck is one of the most pet-friendly places around. Two things to remember about the Meyers Downtown Cafe: They don’t accept credit cards so bring cash or a checkbook, and you can’t visit without trying their signature sweet tea.
