The Golf Club at Gray's Crossing started out as a private course but opened to the public during the fallout from the Great Recession. Turns out that the overall bad fortune of the economy means a bit of good fortune for regular duffers far and wide. Peter Jacobsen, whose motto is to make a golf course meld with the surrounding terrain, designed the Truckee course. Within 18 holes, players will have 18 different experiences. An example at Gray’s Crossing is the par 5 18th, which features double fairways divided by a riot of wildflowers. Other features at the course include an expert caddie program, practice facilities to include putting greens and a short game area with two bunkers. PJ’s Bar and Grill serves as the course’s 19th hole and offers an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar.
