Every spring when the snow’s melting away, the Dummy Downhill at Diamond Peak marks the end of the ski/snowboard season. Participating teams build a “dummy” (you interpret what that means) of less than 75 pounds, mounted on skis, snowboards, sleds, or similar sliding device. The dummies are transported up the mountain and set loose to launch off a giant jump in full view of the base lodge. Meanwhile, on the deck of the base lodge, spectators enjoy barbecue, beverages and live music while they watch the shenanigans. At a ceremony following the event, prizes and certificates are awarded for creativity, best crash, farthest distance, shortest distance, survivor and most sustainable. It’s a fun day for the whole family.
