Founded in 1932, the Truckee Host Lions Club proudly has served the Truckee community for 92 years. We host a free Community Health Fair for families and kids; assist residents in need with free eye exams and glasses; host a benefit community concert, Latitude 39; donate to Truckee Little League and high school athletics and activities; assist residents who need emergency services; and support community events, especially those that enhance the health and wellness of local residents.
Lions serve, and Truckee Lions give back by serving others in our community.
Historically, our club's biggest fundraiser was sponsoring a winter sled dog race in Truckee, with proceeds paying for the support and training of a seeing eye dog placed with a Northern California visually-impaired resident. In recent years, our St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser has helped raise funds to support our free Community Health Fair and other club projects.
We work with school nurses, Lions organizations, and local eye doctors to provide free eye exams and glasses to adults and children in need of vision-related services. We collect donated eyeglasses and recycle these for those who need glasses but can't afford them. We assist the hearing impaired with applying for financial assistance for hearing aids through the Lions Hearing Foundation. We also support local student activities such as field trips, student plays, and youth sports teams.
Our club embraces the Lions' motto: "Where There is a Need, There is a Lion."
