Our mission is to preserve the winter sports and Olympic history of the Sierra Nevada Region, to share stories of the legends of winter, and to inspire generations to experience the wonder and passion of our unique mountain spirit.

Ski & Snowboard History
An Interactive Cultural Center will tell the stories of skiing & winter sports in the Sierra Nevada, including Washoe Tribes traveling on hand-hewn snowshoes, Gold Miners racing on 14-foot long boards, the 10th Mountain Division elite ski troopers in WWII and how our winter sports pioneers defined our mountain culture.

VIII Olympic Museum
The 1960 VIII Winter Olympics were held February 18 to 28 in Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe. Winning the bid for the area with just one chair lift, two rope tows and a 50-room lodge was an international surprise. For just $7.50 a day, you could watch 700 athletes from over 30 nations. The Chairman of Pageantry was Walt Disney, who set new standards by creating remarkable opening and closing ceremonies
