By now, most people in the Tahoe Region have probably heard of Burning Man. What many may not know is that it is more than just a week-long desert celebration of art and expression...but an entire culture revolving around Ten Principals which “Burners” bring into their lives the other 358 days of the year!

Two of those Principals are: Leave No Trace and Civic Responsibility. Typically area Burners are dusting off and cooling down at Lake Tahoe the week after Labor Day. This year, they are wanting to give back to a region that has been hard-hit with trash from an increase in tourism.

Tahoe Burners are rallying for a massive 3-day multi-location litter pickup event around Truckee and Lake Tahoe. Another Principal is Radical Inclusion, so of course, the community welcomes those who have never been to or even heard of Burning Man to come join in. In the spirit of Radical Self Expression, there will be fun costumes! Volunteers may wear whatever they like, but each day has its own theme to help spark inspiration.

Clean-ups will practice another Principal: Radical Self-Reliance: Participants are asked to bring gloves, bags, sanitizer…everything you might need. All clean-ups follow local Covid guidelines; masks and distancing required.
