Headwaters Science Institute is currently accepting applications for our 2023 Winter Research Experience! This program is held every semester and guides high school students in developing a research question. They will design and execute an experiment, analyze data, and publish their manuscript in the Headwaters Student Journal. In addition to learning research skills that will serve students well in their careers, the publication of a manuscript and a recorded virtual presentation boost students’ college applications and enhance science communication skills. Students will have real-world experience, contacts in the scientific community, and a network of peers to prepare them for their college applications, research assistantships, and scholarship opportunities.
Connecting with locals in the Truckee Tahoe area would be a great way to engage with my own community. Students from across the area have thrived in our programming in the past and I would be excited to have more students participate in the future. I would love to have the opportunity to work with your students!
The program runs for 12 weeks, from January 15th - April 19th, and can be completed remotely from anywhere with internet access. High school students receive professional one-on-one scientific mentorship and skills in all aspects of research. This program costs $1,500 for each student. We hope to offer an affordable, accessible program to students from all backgrounds. At Headwaters, we encourage students from all socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds to participate, no matter their scientific experience or expertise. Scholarships to be available to students who want to participate, but cannot afford the $1,500. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is December 1st.
I can't wait to have your students in class this January!
