The distinct design aesthetic of the Truckee-Tahoe region is that of rustic mountain lodge. The Cedar House Sport Hotel has taken that idea and moved it squarely — and successfully — into the 21st century. Call it a boutique eco-lodge. The 40-room hotel retains the lodge feel of yesteryear with plenty of natural wood, space and coziness, but the architecture is distinctly modern, sharp and achieved through sustainable building practices such as the use of unrefined and recycled materials. All that said, the Cedar House is a family-owned establishment opened in 2006. Along with single queen rooms for those keeping track of expenses to luxury suites with several lodging options in between, the Cedar House is all about bringing the outdoors in through culinary and adventure experiences. The dining begins at Stella, the hotel’s restaurant. The adventure starts with an in-house adventure company able to set guests up with, among other things, snowshoe, mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, SUP, backpacking and equestrian excursions. Being Truckee, the Cedar House is dog friendly, but do check with management before showing up with Fido.
Stella Dining Room & Kitchen is the restaurant at the Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee. But Stella isn’t your normal dining establishment. Rather than being a restaurant that's open every night with a set menu, Stella hosts a variety of dining experiences with the main types being Pop Up Dinner events. Several times a month Stella hosts a night in the Pop Up series with one-off menus like South for the Winter, Apres-Ski or Chinese New Year. If you’re a foodie Stella will organize custom classes for up to a dozen would-be chefs as well as classes aimed at creating unique menus with wine pairings. Stella will also host your group or family gathering. The Cedar House also hosts on-site wedding for 60 to 100 guests and can also plan off-site weddings. The on-site event center can accommodate meetings and retreats.
