4100 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe, CA
One of the first of the fun and different restaurants to come to South Lake Tahoe with the redevelopment projects near the state line was FiRE + iCE Interactive Bar + Grill. The concept is that you choose your own components and sauces and the chef grills it all up right in front of you. It works very well with the Heavenly Village setting of whole-timber construction and patio fire pits. You can choose your ingredients along one of their four themes of Latin, American, Asian or Italian or create your very own blend. And the build-your-own model lets you control the meal, which is perfect for vegetarian diners. Be sure not to miss their grill lunch or dinner, both offered at one All You Can Eat price.

Every town needs a rowdy bar where everyone has a tattoo and there is always lots of loud live music by bands that are unknown to the world at large. Whiskey Dick's is that bar. It was that bar a decade ago when Jan Conroy bought it, and it is that bar still today. If you’re looking for some solitary drinking, you should look elsewhere....read more

Long before those ubiquitous chain coffee places started popping up across America, Truckee had its own go-to spot: Wild Cherries. The long-standing meeting place in Truckee is a cross between “Cheers” (sans the adult beverages) and an establishment owned by a buddy, which means after a while employees will know your name and order upon your entrance. No worries, though, if you’re just visiting town....read more
