Kaspian Recreation Area is on Highway 89, 4 miles south of Tahoe City at the base of Blackwood Canyon. A campground and outdoor recreation area, the zone is excellent for wilderness fun in summer and winter. Kaspian Beach and Campground are located on National Forest land managed by the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The summer offers mountain biking, road cycling and hiking. In the winter the recreation area offers snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snow-play areas. The campground is across the street from the lake, providing easy access to the free public beaches and the bike path that encircles a portion of the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Best suited for tents only, the camp sites offer campfire rings, grills and picnic tables. Campfires and portable charcoal grills are never allowed on Tahoe beaches. Campfires and charcoal are allowed within the metal fire rings in the campground. On the beach, the Forest Service requires the use of portable gas grills instead of charcoal. This reduces the risk of fires from hot coals and helps keep the beaches clean from ashes. There are public toilets as well. This is a summer-only campground.
