It's safe to say with the 13 different ski areas in the Lake Tahoe basin that the area is rich in ski and snowboarding options. But Palisades Tahoe/Alpine Meadows has one thing that the others do not: long, steep runs. That is why Palisades Tahoe/Alpine Meadows is the place that many skiers and snowboarders flock to to hone their craft on one plank or two. Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows were originally two ski areas owned by two different companies. The mountains merged a few years ago, gaining the area the most acreage for a ski resort in the basin. Beyond the steeps that are offered at both Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows, there is also a plethora of easy and moderate terrain for the entire family to enjoy. Currently there are free shuttles helping guests access both mountains, though there is a gondola that should be open in the near future linking the two. In the summer the Palisades Tahoe side of the two ski areas becomes an activity center as well, offering mountain biking, tennis, hiking, swimming and hot tubbing at High Camp located at the top of the Tram.
