Get a taste of the foods local to Tahoe as chefs and restaurants team up with nearby growers and producers for the weekend-long Sample the Sierra: Farm-to-Fork Food & Wine Festival. Sample delicious dishes made with the freshest of ingredients and complement the flavors with the suitable wine or beer from local vendors. When you’re not eating, you can check out the festival’s marketplace featuring the fares of local craftspeople including artwork, soaps and jams. Work up an appetite by dancing to live music. You can also watch three Tahoe chefs put their skills to the test in the Sierra Chef’s Challenge, where they compete to prepare the tastiest dish using only local ingredients. You may even get to sample it! And such an event wouldn’t be complete without a tour of the neighboring farms that supply the goods. This Lake Tahoe annual event brings all members — producers, chefs and, of course, eaters and drinkers — together to appreciate the closeness of the food sources to the plates. Sample the Sierra usually takes place during Labor Day weekend in Bijou Park in South Lake Tahoe.
