Visit any resort town and you’ll find plenty of places serving a variety of craft beers and boutique wines. Truckee’s Drunken Monkey, however, goes one step more with its unique sake bar. Whether you’re a sake connoisseur or know nothing about the traditional Japanese rice wine, the sake menu is bound to not only please but also educate, so don’t be intimidated. Drunken Monkey also serves shochu, a distilled Japanese beverage, Japanese beers and, yes, those craft beers. Drunken Monkey has another bar of note — its sushi bar. The bar is presided over by a sushi chef with not only French cooking chops but also sushi lineage directly linked to Japan, which means you won't find an all-you-can-eat sushi menu or mayo and cream cheese insulting the long rolls. For guests not fond of sushi, Drunken Monkey has a wonderfully wide menu selection including Asian-style noodle and rice bowls, inventive meat and seafood tapas plates, vegetarian offerings and tempura. Drunken Monkey serves lunch Monday through Friday. Happy hour is weekdays from 3 to 5 p.m.
