There are a number of places for Italian food in town but few with the cozy and intimate atmosphere of Cafe Fiore. Located in an alpine cabin up Ski Run Boulevard, the setting is a reminder of the earlier days of South Shore, when South Lake Tahoe was a remote mountain hamlet and skiing was a quaint winter sport instead of a billion-dollar industry. Reservations are encouraged, by phone or online, at this tiny Italian restaurant, and when you taste dishes such as the veal scaloppine or filet mignon, you’ll understand why. Cafe Fiore also has one of the better wine lists to be found in the area, and in the warmer seasons, there is wonderful outdoor seating beneath the huge Tahoe pines.
