Ring in the New Year, Tahoe-style, with the annual Fireworks and Torchlight Parade in Palisades Tahoe. As you likely know, skiing is part of Tahoe’s way of life, so of course they incorporate it into their holiday celebrations. On New Year’s Eve, grab your skis and join the parade – that is, the parade where you ski downhill while carrying a torchlight – at Palisades Tahoe Alpine Meadows. Sure, watching the ball drop on TV is cool, but it doesn’t hold a candle to watching the steady flow of glowing torchlights cascade down a slope ... literally! There’s even a parade just for kids. They can play free carnival games to win glow sticks that they’ll carry as they ski down Exhibition Run. After the parades finish, gather at the base of the slope to watch the fireworks display. As the midnight hour approaches, join your friends for the New Year’s Eve party at Palisades Tahoe’s Olympic House. Admission to the Torchlight Parade is free, and it starts at 6:30 p.m. Get there early to reserve your spot in the line.
