Kirkwood Mountain is a South Lake Tahoe ski area tucked a little out of the way of the hustle and bustle that is seen in town. Kirkwood is about a 45-minute drive from the center of South Lake. This small distance creates positives: crowds are smaller and attention to personal service is higher. The ski area itself is great for all levels of skiers with a large area for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders as well as a large enough area of expert terrain to keep any advanced skier busy. In the summer the ski area transitions and offers lift-access hiking and mountain biking, offering 22 trails in the Kirkwood valley, 12 of those accessed via chairlift and 12 of those miles being curvy, banked single track. For both seasons, ski, snowboard and bike rentals are offered at the mountain.
