Caliente is done up like an old hacienda with low ceilings, exposed beams, wood and iron fixtures and rustic wooden chairs. The interior bar and dining room are styled in Southwestern decor and stay warm and cozy in the winter. But if the sun is shining, you gotta get outside. For something mellow, try the patio around the front of the building. If you’re looking for the party, head upstairs to the rooftop deck with its palapa bar and view of the lake. The cuisine at Caliente matches the decor: Tex-Mex with a Southwestern accent. The menu is mostly bar snacks with a few Platos Grandes and some fajita platters. But you’re here for the drinks, right? Caliente is well known for its wide selection of tequilas. Have a shot or a flight, a traditional margarita or something different like the Prickly Pear Margarita. Come by on the first Thursday of every month for a tequila tasting. But you haven’t experienced Caliente until you’ve gotten brain freeze from their signature frozen drink, the ChupaCabra, a blend of tequila, rum, peach schnapps and tropical juices.
