As if to balance out the resort and casino restaurants, Tahoe’s South Shore has an impressive number of old-school breakfast/lunch diners, the kind that you could imagine seeing in a 1950s photograph with a family enjoying a meal together. Bert’s Cafe is one of these spots, always full of locals but more than happy to serve biscuits and gravy or chicken-fried steak to a visitor as well. Both the breakfast and the lunch offerings are served all day, but first-timers should definitely try the Eggs Benedict with the Hollandaise sauce made fresh from scratch daily. Seating is in booths or at the counter amidst country decor, and Bert’s is near the Y just up the street from – of course – Ernie’s Coffee Shop.
