Taylor Creek Visitor Center is a wonderful place to enjoy the natural environment of Lake Tahoe. A learning center that focuses on the local flora and fauna, there are multiple self-guided information trails that highlight different plants, birds and wildlife that frequent the area. Additionally, there is a Stream Profile Chamber a quarter-mile walk down the Rainbow Trail; it gives an aquarium view into the real-life goings-on of Taylor Creek. The exhibit educates on all four seasons as well as on animals like raccoons, crayfish, bats, frogs, stellar's jays, bald eagles and butterflies. The visitor center is open daily from Memorial Day weekend through October. Though the buildings are closed during the winter, the grounds remain open year-round, and the site serves as a popular cross-country skiing and snowshoeing destination.
