Each year, top cyclists from all over the country and world come to California to compete in the Amgen Tour of California Men’s and Women’s Race. This race could be considered a cousin to the Tour de France. Participants cycle their way over hundreds of miles of California highway. As cyclists skirt along scenic coastline and wind through mountain passes, it only makes sense that South Lake Tahoe makes up a stage of this annual race. Competitors love Lake Tahoe for its breathtaking lake and mountain terrain and the wide variety of entertainment to enjoy when they aren’t pedaling about on their bikes. And athletes aren’t the only ones who turn out for the event — fans, media and various sponsors are present too. It’s a time of excitement and focus on health and well-being. This Lake Tahoe event usually takes place in May.
