Tahoe Symphony OrchestraPosts

A new era begins October 9, 10, and 11. Our new artistic director, Hannah von Wiehler presents our upcoming season, HUMAN. In an age of machines that write, speak, and compose, it asks the oldest question of all: what makes us human? Four concerts — BODY, ELEMENTS, MIND, and SOUL — alongside the traditions you love. Handel's Messiah in December. A Jazz Age night under the stars in July. And in August, for the first time ever, opera on the lake: Madama Butterfly at the water's edge, with the Humming Chorus sung from the shoreline at dusk.

Everyone under 23 comes free, always. Come hear what's about to happen here.

JOIN US as Artistic Director Candidate Finalist, Jason Altieri, leads the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus through "Dreams of Dawn": a musical program centered on renewal and discovery. The concert opens with Mozart's Impresario Overture: a high-energy curtain-raiser that crackles with wit and momentum, a perfect reminder of why Mozart remains one of music's most irresistible voices.

The program then shifts into something altogether more dreamlike: Ola Gjeilo's Dreamweaver, a hauntingly beautiful work for chorus, piano, and strings that sets an ancient Norwegian folk poem in music of still, quiet wonder. TOCCATA's chorus takes center stage in a piece that is both deeply accessible and quietly unforgettable.

The concert closes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, the work of a young composer announcing himself to the world with unmistakable confidence, charm, and fire. It is a joyful, propulsive close to an evening.

Dreams of Dawn is a concert for every musical appetite and the perfect way to spend a June evening in Tahoe.
