Based out of the Resort at Squaw Creek, Matt Heron Fly Fishing is a great summer day excursion for those ready to try their hand at flipping the wrist and casting a line. Heron, a guide with more than 26 years of experience and a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor, is the only fly-fishing instructor in Squaw Valley. He offers a variety of classes. Choices include, but aren’t limited to, a three-hour Cast N’ Catch where students learn the art of casting or The Sundowner that gives guests a full day’s excursion. In addition to teaching most of his classes at the stocked ponds located on the Resort at Squaw Creek property, Heron also does private trips on the Truckee River and other small local streams.
