Mikuni Sushi

Northstar California Resort
5001 Northstar Drive Suite 5101, Truckee, CA
(530) 562-2188

For nearly 30 years Mikuni Sushi has served customers around Sacramento at a half-dozen restaurants. The NorCal sushi fixture also has a location open all year at Northstar California near the resort village’s ice rink. The atmosphere at Mikuni Northstar is as vibrant as the food. The bar is located in the middle of the restaurant, but diners can also find booth and table service as sushi and other items are prepared in the kitchen or at the sushi bar. With hundreds of menu items available, the selection if vast, but you can’t go wrong choosing the Pepperfin plate from the sushi bar with thin-sliced salmon, tuna or hamachi and jalapeno seasoning, sesame oil and lemon. Another winner is the seared Hokkaido scallops and snow crab. Hit happy hour Thursday and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. There are also gluten-free and to-go menus.

Moody’s Bistro, Bar & Beats

10007 Bridge Street, Truckee, CA
(530) 587-8688

Moody’s in downtown Truckee is all about the three B’s — bistro, bar and beats. In fact that’s the popular establishment’s formal name: Moody’s Bistro, Bar & Beats (but locals just call it Moody’s). Occupying the lower half of the historic (and maybe haunted?) Truckee Hotel, you can hit Moody’s any time: lunch, happy hour, dinner or late-night grooving to live jazz. Not hungry enough for a full meal? Grab a place at the bar with a friend, order a craft beer or custom cocktail and share a selection or two off the small-plate menu. If a full dinner is the plan for the night, Moody’s dining room can accommodate larger groups of diners yet retains a cozy feel. Moody’s has emphasized farm-to-fork ingredients before it was a thing. And just like its food, the live music is tastefully curated and presented in the bar-and-lounge.
