Lake Tahoe Weddings

Whether you’ve planned an elaborate destination wedding or you and your lover made a spur of the moment decision, Lake Tahoe weddings guarantee your special day will be scenic and romantic. Walk down the aisle of a charming chapel at a South Lake Tahoe wedding, perch on the edge of a dock that stretches into the lake in a Tahoe City wedding or exchange your vows at a Truckee wedding held underneath the shady pine trees at the base of a mountain.

So Many Possibilities for Lake Tahoe Weddings

A Lake Tahoe wedding can be a small and intimate ceremony in a chapel, an extravagant affair on the lawn of lakeside resort or a casual exchange of vows in a rustic lodge. In other words, your Lake Tahoe wedding is as elaborate or casual as you want it to be.

Accommodations ranging from resorts, inns, hotels and rentals are available to you and your wedding party – some of them will even let you hold the ceremony there! Imagine your wedding on the grassy lawn of your rental that overlooks the crystal clear lake. Incline Village wedding parties have the advantage of choosing a nationally known resort setting or a simple ceremony in an aspen grove. Or you can enjoy the mountain setting that Lake Tahoe also embraces and have a Squaw Valley wedding in a cozy chateau. Feel like your wedding isn’t complete without your four-legged, furry best friend? Kings Beach weddings supply an assortment of venues that welcome dogs.

Of course it takes more than a venue to make your wedding day memorable. Lake Tahoe weddings go off without a hitch with the help of the area’s wedding planners, caterers, photographers and more. These people are experienced wedding professionals and will work with you to create your dream ceremony. Looking for vegan hors-d’oeuvres to enjoy during the reception? Lake Tahoe wedding caterers with munchies that’ll keep you going between dancing the Electric Slide and taking photos.

No matter the venue or the budget, Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty will give you a romantically bucolic wedding that would turn Ralph Waldo Emerson green with envy.

Big Water Grille

341 Ski Way, Incline Village, NV
(775) 833-0606

“Big water” is one meaning attributed to the Washoe name for the lake, Tahoe. You can see just how big that water is when you take in the panoramic views from the spacious dining room of the Big Water Grille. Serving seasonal selections of California bistro cuisine, there’s a great list of starters like the ahi poke or pan-roasted quail plus fresh vegetable sides and some serious steak burgers. The hearty main courses include pan-seared duck breast, a smoked rib eye and nightly fresh seafood specials. They have a wrap-around bar with a separate food menu, signature martinis, craft cocktails and beer. The wine list is extensive with more than 200 international selections. Appetizer and drink specials occur Wednesdays in the spring and fall. Just down the road from Diamond Peak, the Big Water Grille is a great place to stop in after a day on the slopes to warm yourself by the fire. Whenever you go, get there early enough to catch an amazing Sierra sunset over the big water of Lake Tahoe. They're open for dinner Wednesday through Monday.

Blue Angel Café

1132 Ski Run Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe, CA
(530) 544-6544

In some ways, Ski Run Boulevard could be considered the heart of South Lake Tahoe. And at the heart of Ski Run is the Blue Angel Café. The cafe was opened in 2003 by Rosie Cowen, and she and her husband, Jeff, have turned the restaurant into an authentic Tahoe institution. There is a bit of everything on their menu, from burgers and pizza to Asian and Indian fusion dishes and almost anything in between as well as espresso, beer and wine. Perhaps due to Jeff’s past experience guiding fishing expeditions on the Lake, the Blue Angel Café will also prepare your freshly caught fish for you, making for an extra-special dinner. Inside the cafe, in addition to traditional table seating, you can also enjoy seating at the bar, on big comfortable couches or alongside the fireplace, and there is outdoor seating available in the warmer months. They also operate an award-winning catering service, available for off-site events or on-site in the banquet loft above the main dining room. The Blue Angel Café is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The airy view from the ski runs and lifts are unlike any other ski area in Lake Tahoe. Its tiny stature lends to a welcoming feeling, where each person is seen for the skier or snowboarder that they are and want to be.

West End Beach

Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District
15962 South Shore Drive, Truckee, CA
(530) 582-7720

Lake Tahoe, 15 minutes away, gets all the attention, but Truckee has a gem of its own: Donner Lake. While not as big and broad as Big Blue, Donner Lake offers up a good bit of watery fun too. One of the best places to access Donner is West End Beach. In summer months during the day, there is a modest admission fee to enter the 10-acre west end area, but the sandy beach and roped-off, kid-friendly swim area is the place to take youngsters to build sand castles and splash in the water all under the watch of life guards. Operated by the Truckee Donner Park and Recreation Department, West End Beach also has paddleboards, kayaks and pedal boats available to rent. There is plenty of free fun once into the beach area: two playgrounds for kids to get their kicks on, a sand volleyball court, tennis court, a basketball court and horseshoe pits. A snack bar serves up soft drinks, hot dogs and ice cream. Get there early and stake out a picnic table and grill. There are shady group picnic areas available by reservation. Local's only tip: If you can wait until after the summer operating hours, access to the beach is free, but gates close at sundown so do your grilling quickly.

Gus' Open Pit Barbecue

930 Tahoe Boulevard, Incline Village, NV
(775) 831-4487

Born out of a mobile catering grill, Gus’ Open Pit Barbecue is not your usual barbecue joint. While most types of grilling originated in the south, Gus’ employs a California style that came from the central coast around the town of Santa Maria. Tri-tip, seasoned with a dry rub, is slow grilled over an open fire of red oak. It’s served straight, without sauce, so you can enjoy the full flavor of the meat. Sides of green salad, garlic bread and pinquito beans – shipped specially up from the central coast – complete the Santa Maria experience. Chicken, pulled pork, hot links, St. Louis ribs as well as sandwiches, sides and appetizers (don’t pass on the pickle fries) round out the menu. Upstairs there’s an open dining space with a vaulted ceiling and lots of wood, a sunken bar serving craft cocktails and a wide selection of beers and a 140-inch video wall for watching sports. The downstairs is more intimate, with two smaller dining rooms and outside tables on the deck. They’ve got Happy Hour deals and specials during NFL games. Gus’ is open Thursday through Monday for dinner, Friday and Sunday for lunch. And they’ve still got that mobile griller for all your catering needs.
