There may not be vineyards in the mountains surrounding Truckee, but there is a winery — Truckee River Winery. Huh? There’s no need for confusion, as the proprietors of the winery have been bringing California-grown grapes to Truckee for a quarter-century to take advantage of the elevation and cool mountain air for fermentation and aging. They crush and blend those grapes for their own Truckee River Winery label. And while there is no vineyard to frolic through, Truckee River Winery offers a friendly tasting room to sample their wines and socialize with locals. During summer months Truckee River Winery spreads the good times outside around their bocce ball courts, horse shoe pits and croquet greens. Wine, cheese, tapas and other goodies and smiles are available year round, including fireplaces indoors for winter time tastings.
