The ski resort known as Heavenly is practically synonymous with Lake Tahoe's South Shore. In fact, many visitors mistakenly refer to the peaks to the south as Heavenly Mountain not realizing that the resort's original name was instead a nod to the nearby valley. With roots dating back to 1955, the resort has grown with the community and helped to shape the region into what it is today. What started out as a tiny ski area with a couple of rope tows and one of the first double chairlifts in the country is currently a year-round destination with indoor and outdoor fun. The Gondola provides access to the mountains for winter sports, sightseeing and summer activities, while closer to lake level, there is a selection of lodging, dining, shopping and entertainment that helps to form the core of the local economy with Heavenly right in the middle of it all.
