If practice makes perfect, it’s no wonder that Nepheles is one of the area’s top choices for fine dining. The restaurant has been under original ownership for some four decades, and its creative California cuisine translates into high-end meals with an award-winning wine list. The executive chef has been with Nepheles nearly since the beginning, and in addition to working with meat from Niman Ranch livestock (known for humane and sustainable ranching practices), his specials on any given day might include elk, wild boar or venison. Add to this the fact that he always has fresh fish prepared in one innovative way or another and you have a truly impressive menu. Another feature that sets Nepheles apart is the hot spa option. This includes a private-room hot tub with full cocktail service, and it makes for a unique and relaxing way to cap off a day on the slopes, particularly in light of the restaurant’s Ski Run Boulevard setting, literally just down the street and within a minute or two of Heavenly’s California Lodge parking lot. Nepheles opens at 2 p.m., and dinner is served until 10 p.m. daily. The bar, popular with South Shore locals, is open until 2 a.m.
