Although there may be various ways to celebrate the 4th of July in Lake Tahoe, a favorite for many is the extravaganza held in Kings Beach. Happening on the third of July, this celebration offers the opportunity to celebrate our United States' freedom twice. But the real reason this is considered to be the most popular 4th of July celebration in Lake Tahoe is because of the way that the entire town gets into the act. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. at the sandy beach of the North Tahoe Event Center and include a huge beach party that is open to all ages. The beach party gives you access to preferred seating for the fireworks later on as well as to food vendors, a beer and wine garden, a knee-deep water race, all the free watermelon you can eat, sandcastle building and a costume contest that honors the person dressed most patriotically. There are also free games, live music, glow toys to play with and fun souvenirs to bring home. The fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m. and runs an entire half hour. It is highly recommended to walk or bike to the event as parking is severely limited. Entrance to this shindig is free!
