While in Lake Tahoe it’s easy to find paddleboard races and triathlons happening all around you. Do you ever have trouble picking one or the other to compete in? The Big Blue Waterman Challenge in Tahoe City is the solution to your problem. It’s just like a triathlon except you replace the bike portion with paddleboarding. Participants standup paddleboard, swim and run their way to the finish line. This Lake Tahoe annual event is part of the Thunderbird Paddling Festival, held in early June, so if you’d prefer to focus more on the water portion of the race, you have other options. The event takes place in multiple heats, and the winners progress to the final rounds. There are heats for men, women and youth competitors. Everyone is issued a one-design board so that all racers have an equal advantage gear-wise. The top three winners in each age group, male and female, receive prizes at the end of the event. If you’re interested in putting your skills to the test or just enjoy physical activity with other lovers of the same sports, check out the Big Blue Waterman Challenge website to purchase your tickets. Get out, get your arms paddling and your legs moving and soak up the beautiful sights of the Lake Tahoe shoreline.
